Issues For New Sites

Joomla Free Help Center - Security & Technical Questions

A new website won't always immediately show up for all visitors.
Its not that there is anything wrong with your site, it just that not all Internet Service Providers update their listings of where sites can be found at the same time. It can take up to 72 hours for everyone to be able to see your new website if this is a just registered domain name or if your old site was hosted elsewhere.

Search engines won't have your new site listed and indexed for a while.

You can try the following techniques to help bring up a reluctant new site:

Refresh The Page
Sometimes hitting the refresh button won't do it. Try holding down the Control key (Ctrl) and then hit F5 while keeping Ctrl down. This causes the entire page to reload in many web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Enter The Site In The Browser Address Line, Not A Search Box
A new site or completely re-designed site will not immediately show up in a search engine box so enter "http://www.DomainName.com" in the browser address box.

Delete Your Browser Cache
Under Internet Options, find "delete files" or "delete cache" and then also delete your history. Now close the browser, restart the computer and try again.

Delete Your Windows DNS Cache
To speed up web browsing, Windows keeps a listing of where sites are located. To 'flush"  this list and force Windows to look up your new site location, do the following:

  • On the start button, click on "Run..."
  • In the box that appears type: ipconfig /flushdns
  • Click the"OK" button
