Intro To Working on Site Content
| Joomla Free Help Center - Working on Site Content |
Joomla 1.5: Webpages are Articles
In Joomla 1.5, webpages are called Articles. To open an article and edit it, go to Content > Article Manager on the main Joomla Admin menu.
Joomla 1.0: Webpages are Content Items
In Joomla 1.0, webpages are called Content Items. To open a content item and edit it, go to Content > All Content Items on the main Joomla Admin menu.
Not All Webpages Are Articles Or Content Items
In all versions of Joomla, think of a "webpage" as the output that is displayed on the screen. When a site visitor clicks on a menu link, Joomla creates the webpage you see from a variety of sources:
- Articles (in Joomla 1.5) & Content Items (in Joomla 1.0) - you create/edit these in the Articles or Content Items editor.
- VirtueMart (the Joomla shopping cart) - you create/edit these items in Components > VirtueMart.
- Components - some webpages are created by components listed on the Components menu. Contact forms and weblinks pages are possible examples. Each site is different.
Those three areas probably create most of the content on your Joomla website. Modules and plugins (called mambots in Joomla 1.0) also assist in creating content for webpages but are considered more advanced subjects. You probably don't need to worry about these unless you want to make major content changes to your site.
Access Limitations
There are different levels of access to the backend admin area of Joomla. Even if you are the site owner, we may have limited your access to certain areas of the site backend for safety reasons. Its not too hard to accidently remove parts of your site or even take it offline. If you are a Manager, only someone with a higher access level can promote you to Administrator or Super Administrator.
Daily Backups
The content of your website is in an SQL database. We have an auto backup system that makes a daily backup copy of this database file, usually between midnight and 6am. If something goes terribly wrong we can restore your site using the last backup available. You can also manually backup the databse before working on the site using one of the installed backup components.
